Pro-cull supporters cling to the idea that it's either Brumbies or native wildlife, and one or the other need to die. But that is not the case, it is not a reason, and they will always go silent before explaining the real reason why anyone could support such cruelty.
The only real excuse for aerial culling, from what I can see, is that it's cheaper and quicker in the short term than humane, long term management plans.
But somehow there's always money for roads, developments, major infrastructure projects, and countless other things governments decide are important.
So why would anyone advocate for brutality when the only excuse is to save money? And not even marginally...
We shouldn't even be having this debate. If there is a humane way to manage wildlife, then that must be the standard we aim for. This is an era of (supposedly) more compassion than ever before in history. So why is this happening? And in a first world country, no less.
If a country is willing to spend billions on projects that damage the landscape substantially more than Brumbies ever could, then surely preventing animal cruelty (and certainly not advocating for it) should be the highest priority.
