Even if you want every single brumby gone from the wild, why would anyone advocate for them to die in terror and pain rather than fertility control, trapping/ rehoming and other humane management solutions?
Why would you want inhumane treatment of any animal?
Pretty much every person who is pro-cull says something along the lines of "I stand for native wildlife, Brumbies kill native wildlife!"
How many have actually looked into what damage is being done by Brumbies? How many native animals have died because of Brumbies? How many are *directly* impacted?
Come on, give me a number if you so fervently want my head on a spike. But there is no isolated data.
If you truly stand for native wildlife and don't just enjoy the idea of horses dying in terror, why are you not up in arms about Snowy 2.0 and the many other projects decimating KNP and directly affecting multiple threatened native species? (Brumbies indirectly affect a few species through habitat disturbance, with the statistics mixed together with statistics of damage caused by other animals in the region, meanwhile Snowy 2.0 alone directly impacts 19 threatened species, 1 threatened ecological community and 4 ecosystems).
I have a bunch of people coming at me with absolute hatred because I compared slaughtering horses with slaughtering thylacines.
How could anyone so deeply want horses to suffer rather than have humane management?
Purely because they are labelled as "feral".
I wonder if they would have had so much hatred if this was in 2018 when NSW Parliament listed them as Heritage Horses.
Did they deserve not to suffer then?
Article:
On this day 90 years ago, the last recorded thylacine died in captivity.
A beautiful, adaptable animal was hunted to extinction by people who had been taught to see them as a pest, encouraged by a government that placed a bounty on their heads.
Sound familiar?
Only they select the middle men now instead of calling for a manhunt.
The circumstances may be different, but the mentality is the same, and the blind obedience by so many who follow a flawed government.
People can be remarkably quick to hate an animal when they are told by those in power that it is "undesirable". Then they will vouch till death that it is justified, despite knowing nothing about it other that what they have been fed.
Blind obedience.
Brumbies may not be native to Australia, but they have lived wild on this continent for generations. They have history here. They have formed wild populations, family structures and a place within landscapes that many Australians now associate with them.
Only 100 years ago, people fervently hated the Thylacine. Now how does everyone feel about them?
Will humans ever learn from history? Or are we destined to repeat it time and time again?
